Anyone who ever came in contact with me can vouch for the fact that I’ve always been a HAPPY, FULL OF LIFE TYPE OF PERSON. Well, this is somewhat true. Although in the photo on the left I have this big smile, I felt sluggish and tired. Getting dressed was a complete drag. If I didn’t have to be places like work, church, etc., I would prefer to stay home and away from people.
I’ve always been a big girl, but one morning I got tired! I was tired of living the same way, tired of eating the same food, tired of not having energy, and tired of shopping in the plus-size section (because the really cute clothes are just as expensive as designer)—just plain ol’tired. (Believe me, I’ve tried every diet under the sun. I never was committed enough beyond losing 10-20 quick pounds.)
This type of tiredness was something I never experienced. It’s like I heard something say, “YOU MUST TAKE CONTROL!” I started researching and made a promise to myself.
“Self, if we get through this, we are going on a trip and getting on every ride, rollercoaster, etc.”
I decided to have the VSG [Gastric Sleeve weight loss surgery] in May 2019 and lost a significant amount of weight. I immediately learned that people shame those who have had surgery. The surgery gives you a jump start, but you’re still required to put the work in.
I’m far from where I want to be, but I FEEL SO GOOD! 131 Pounds of Tired is gone forever! I’m living life my way, on my terms! During this process, I’ve lost & gained, but I’m always working to be better.
How did you change your eating habits after surgery?
After surgery, I completely cut out sugar and carbs. I transitioned to a high protein diet which I still follow.
What did your workout routine consist of?
Three weeks after surgery, I began walking. Once I was cleared, I started doing full-body exercises with weights at home and neighborhood parks. (ankles weights, dumbbells, kettlebell, and medicine ball) I also wear a waist trainer during workouts.
How often did you work out?
Because I don’t go to the gym, I work out 4-5 times a week, twice a day when the weather permits.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 396 pounds, and my current weight is 265 pounds. I’m still not where I want to be because I’m continually learning. Let’s just say I’m a work in progress.
What is your height?
I am 5’6″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
If it doesn’t work at first, never stop trying.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
I want to share with others that the goal is to be the best version of yourself. There is more than one way to reach a weight loss goal. Find the one that is best for you.
NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF! Never allow yourself to dwell in self-pity. Rock every pound loss and inch shed!
